About High Functioning Autism - High Functioning Autism is a condition which is becoming better understood. Previously, children with mild High Functioning Autism were thought to be just withdrawn or ‘weird’. Now we have more knowledge which helps us identify and treat High Functioning Autism. The outward signs of a child having Autistic Spectral Disorder (ASD) are an inability to interact on the social level with others including adults, limited or no verbal communication and curiously repetitive behaviors and interests. It is estimated that between .3 and .6% of children are afflicted with girls possessing this disorder at a quarter the rate as boys.
